Coca-Cola Office Mural Project

For the opening of a brand new Chicago office for the Coca-Cola Company, an opportunity for unique storytelling was identified. Considering the rich stories already being told just outside the office, via the nearby B-Line and its numerous murals, and the overall design strategy of “The Perfect Pair,” art direction was provided to two local Chicago artists who were hired to collaborate and install a unique mural in the office entrance.

art direction, brand strategy, collaboration

For a satellite office dedicated to meeting with their two biggest Chicago-based accounts, McDonald’s and Walgreen’s, The Coca-Cola Company wanted to create a unique environment that acknowledges Chicago’s diverse culture and echo the sentiment of perfect pairings.
Working within the strategic guidelines, and wanting to create something special but natural to the environment, I came up with the plan of having two local artists collaborate on a hand-painted mural in order to create another “perfect pairing.” The idea was to produce a work that utilized a collage or “patchwork” approach to communicate the idea of disparate elements coalescing into a whole.

After I discussed strategy, art direction and inspiration with all stakeholders and got buy-in, artists Shelby Rodeffer and Wyatt Grant went to work incorporating their unique styles into a mural that complimented those found outside, near the office, along Chicago’s B-Line at Hubbard Street.
