About "Retrieval and Transposition"

THE SHORT VERSION:
Since January of 2017, I’ve been make monthly playlists and designing “covers” for them as a fun hobby, This year I decided to design those covers at a larger scale and screen-print them by hand to create a limited run of art prints that will be available for purchase. The playlists will still be free for your listening pleasure.

THE LONGER VERSION:
My discovery of music and design went hand-in-hand. As a child I grew up in awe of the sounds coming from my father’s stereo speakers and the visuals spilling out of his stereo cabinet. I would pour over each album jacket as new sounds filled my ears. I damn-near had a religious experience right there on the living room floor and I knew these two things would be forever intwined into the fabric of my existence. When I played in bands out of high school and into my early thirties, I was the guy designing all of the band’s flyers and merch and when I began to study design I was always excited by the opportunity to design a poster or album packaging for a band. These two loves have never left me. I don’t do much playing of music anymore and I don’t seem to be doing as much fun design. So in 2019, I’m changing that. Each month I’ll compile a playlist of new and old favorite jams kicking around in my head. Simultaneously, I’ll begin designing a piece of art (“cover art,” if you will) to produce as a limited edition of screenprints. The prints will be printed by hand and available at an affordable price… the music is free (because, like, it’s not mine…). Hopefully some of you will find enjoyment in this and purchase some art for your homes, but mostly this is just something I’ve decided I need to do for the duration of 2019. At the end of the year I’ll have a body of work that will hopefully have some life beyond its initial creation. Thanks for playing.
